Eye care and cataract surgery project
Cataract is one of the most common causes of preventable blindness in India and the incidence is higher in rural parts of the nation. Meenakshi eye camp project is actively working towards reducing cataract-related blindness by conducting regular screening camps. This was one of our first activities to start from 2012. We have tied up with SRI SHARDHA EYE AND DENTAL CARE CENTER, CHAMRAJPET BANGALORE where all the surgeries are conducted. The whole program we divide into 3 phases, in phase 1 we visit rural areas screen for cataracts among the rural people and bring them to SRI SHARDHA EYE AND DENTAL CARE CENTER, CHAMRAJPET BANGALORE. In phase 2 the screened and selected cases, undergo one more screening in the
center and get operated on. They will be discharged the next day. Phase 3, 2 and 4 weeks after the discharge we follow up with the patient to make sure everything is going well and the operated people have no surgery-related issues. The whole expenditure of phases 1 and 3 including the transportation is taken care by RRHCF and phase 2 is taken care of by SRI SHARDHA EYE AND DENTAL CARE CENTER, CHAMRAJPET BANGALORE.
Since 2012 we are conducting these camps every quarter, So far 4 camps have been conducted in areas around Antaragange Kolar, Kallur Tumukur dist, Chickballapur and Jinke Park Bangalore slums. Around 67 patients have been operated with no post op complications.
